The Elite Players League was started after the demise of the Graphics Forum Baseball League. The original commissioner was Steve Thiele. The league began coming together in May of 2005, and the first draft day was June 24th, 2005. On July 11, 2005, the first EPL sim was held. EPL has been going strong since then.

Originally, there were eight teams in the EPL.

• Boston Beaneaters - managed by matt222213. The Beaneaters were moved to Hawaii by WWBL Commissioner and renamed the Island Warriors in 2010. In 2011, CarsonWheeler became Hawaii GM. And for the 2012 season, he brought them home to Boston to be known as the Beaneaters once again.
• Nashville Soul - managed by Jason Marbach. The Nashville Soul were moved by Strawberry Pancakes and became the Long Beach Armada. In 2008 Brad became the Armada GM and in 2011 the team was taken over by Minnysoxfan. At the start of the 2012 season, he moved the team to St. Paul where they became known as the Blizzard. In 2013, Nizam was briefly the Blizzard GM but now the team is run by hollaar13. Prior to the 2014 season, he changed the team name to the Minnesota Outlaws. In 2016 they moved to Myrtle Beach and became the Sharks. Shortly after the 2016 trade deadline, M.Eugling took over the club.
• New Jersey Nightmares - managed by Achilles. The Nightmares are one of two teams to retain their original manager.
• New York Firebirds - managed by KingKoz. The Firebirds are the other team still managed by their original manager.
• Lancaster Lynx - managed by MikeyWVU. In 2006 Wanderer became the manager of the Lynx.
• New Orleans River Bandits - managed by The Prodigy. Kaell moved the team to Cincinnati after the 2008 season where they became the Cincinnati Bearcats. In 2010, Ryan O'Cuilleain took over management responsibilities and in 2011 he re-christened the team the Cincinnati Cyclones. Astro Annie has been Ryan's assistant since he took over. At the end of 2012, Ryan and Annie stepped down and Kaell became manager of Cincinnati once again. In 2015, gardenhoser became the Cincinnati GM.
• Philadelphia Threshers - managed by mk14braves. This franchise has seen a lot of change. Managers have included Dave Luebke and PhiladelphiaGM. The team is now run by Jeremy Martin. The team has changed names as well. In 2007 they became the Fanatics and after the end of the 2009 season, the Independents. In 2012, Martin changed the name back to Threshers.
• San Francisco Killer Ducks - managed by Doug Timms. The Killer Ducks were managed by sepsportsfanatic from 2009 through 2012. In 2013, Pancakes took over the reigns.

At the end of the 2006 season, two new expansion teams were added:

• Alaska Ice Wolves - managed by Rachel. Rachel continues to manage the team, although she has relocated them to Chicago for the 2014 season and renamed them the Huskies.
• Michigan Murderers - managed by TC. The Murderers were moved to Wichita at the start of 2009 where they became the Wichita Twisters. In 2013, brandocamando took over the team. In 2013, Namleh took over as Twister GM.

The league expanded again in 2009. The league added two teams:

• Las Vegas Gladiators - managed by Brian Bakic. He remains manager of the Gladiators.
• Soldats du Quebec - managed by Michael LeClair. Steve Thiele became Soldats manager at the beginning of the 2011 season. In 2012, he moved the team to Nashville where they became the new Nashville Soul.

Prior to the 2015 season, the league expanded a third time, this time adding four new teams. The two conferences were divided into divisions of four teams each, with one expansion team going to each division.

• Brussels Bulls - managed by nim10.
• Corpus Christi Stingrays - managed by chandler44.
• Florida Catfish - managed by Luebke.
• Toronto Titans - managed by MarcusChiang.
